Congratulations on a job well done and a $500 award to DSHS senior Kyle Brunken!
Kyle is one of the teams founding members whose hard work and determination have proven to be a student the DSMTB Board wants to recognize and encourage to continue his cycling and educational efforts. He is an outstanding young man and is blessed to have the support of his fun and loving parents Chris and Racshel.
A dedicated and hard working leader. Kyle has found a balance with school and his extracurriculars. He is an active leader in his youth ministry at church, a member of DSMTB, Summit Mountain Bike Club, and trains with Williams Racing Academy.
Kyle from the beginning, showed his willingness to listen and learn from the upper classmen and coaches. He was willing at that young age, to try and stay up front with the older guys knowing he would be dropped but always finished with a smile on his face and the drive not to give up. He also had the perfect temperament when one of the younger guys were having a tough day and would slow down to keep the group intact on our group weekend rides. He has been very helpful over the years mentoring the younger kids and leads by example on how to go about being a competitive cyclist.

Humble and wise at an early age:
“I love the downhill jumps and all the rock!”

It’s fascinating to see the progression and development that some riders are capable of. Watching Kyle go from a Cat-3 8th grader with baggy shorts and sneakers finishing 37th at his first race to a Cat-1 rider finishing in the top 3 is amazing. Increasing distance from 10-15 miles per week to 200+ is proof of his hard work ethic. Progression for riders of any age or ability is what I love to see. And the results Kyle has earned with the skills he acquired along the way have been great to witness. It will be fun watching him take it to the next level!

Kyle will continue his studies and passion for cycling at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. We are thankful for his leadership and look forward to him achieving his academic and cycling dreams.
