Early Beginnings

2015

October 7
First meeting for new riders with Founder Lance Thornton, Speakers Wayne & Sarah Figg (Hudson Bend MS), Jennifer Stankard (1st sponsor Southwest Cycle Sport) and Shane McNally (Canyon Cycles)

October 20
McCraw Design contacts Lance Thornton about sponsorship and designing for the team. Lance states he wants to keep the team “Loose and fun!” which sets the tone and guidance for the future.

October 21
Concepts for new identity, jerseys and merchandise developed and pitched by McCraw Design.

October 26
Team is established with NICA by Head Coach Lance Thornton.

November 4
Lance contacts Lynne Dickinson with Dripping Springs Ranch Park about using the facility and possibly developing a trail.

November 10
First team mountain bike practice held.

November 19
DSMTB has 70 high school and middle school riders practicing.

December 3
First team press coverage in the Hays County News Dispatch.

December 17
First team meet and greet held with Pro Rider Payson McElveen.

January 11
Approval by Ranch Park to plan trails.

January 23
First DSMTB Bike Rodeo held at Ranch Park.

January 26
First draft of team Bylaws.

February 1
Team Bylaws adopted.

February 5
First bank account opened.

February 7
First team race results, first top 10, Madeline McCraw 7th place at Reveille Peak Ranch.

February 16
Dripping Springs City Council votes to allow team access to 75 acre trail extension at Ranch Park for trail development.

March 16
First “Ladies Ride” with Jennfer Stankard.

March 28
DSMTB chosen as “Campus Spotlight” for March School Board Meeting.

March 21
Four top 10 finishers!

April 4
Dripping Springs Mountain Bike Club established as an official non-profit.

April 15
First podium finisher–Michah Sherril 3rd place!

April 22
Bank account at Pioneer opened.

April 25
Mountain biking approved as an alternate PE at the Dripping Springs schools.

May 10
NICA first year results. Team ranked 10th in state for high school. Top 10 Rankings by riders Casey Maron and Katelynn Marsan. Middle school team ranked 6th in state. Top 10 rankings by Micah Sherill, Dominic Garafollo and Caroline Russey.

May 25
First Spring Games Festival attended by team at Dripping Springs Middle School.

May 26
Received contract with City of Dripping Springs for Ranch Park Trails.

June 2
First end of season ride with cake party at Ranch Park.

August 11
Team representatives at High School ROAR event.

September 15
Team receives official 501c status.

September 19
1.10 mile trail loop completed!

October 6
Second team parents meeting.

October 17
Teams (coaches, parents, students) race at 24hours of Rocky Hill and finish 6th and 11th overall.

October 25
.7 additional miles of trail added (mainly by Bill & Jackson Householder with their tractor).

November 4
Team Sträva account established by Coach Lance.

November 6
First Austin Ridge Riders Kids Ride & Mountain Bike Mashup.

November 27
First team Cranksgiving at Reimers Ranch. Katelynn Marsan in 2nd place. Carter Kasson in 1st place. Alumni Casey Maron in 3rd.

November 28
First bulk order placed with sponsor Honey Stinger.

February 8
Additional 2 miles of trail added at Ranch Park.

February 13
First team merchandise stickers, tents, flags, etc…produced.

February 16
Signs and Wayfinding pitched to Ranch Park and City by Lance Thornton and Shawn McCraw.

Trail issues with city and neighborhood begins.

February 21
Annual DSMTB Board Meeting

First NICA top podium spot earned by Ben Marsan!

April 4
Team trailer donated by Gerald Sherill.

April 26
McNasty Trail sealed off due to developer dispute with the city.

May 10
First team photo taken and first DSMTB trail sign posted at lower kiosk.

May 25
End of year picnic at Ranch Park.

June 18
Riders attend Durango trip with Scott Shaefer.

June 29
Team Amazon Smile account established by Kevin Harris.

September 8
Coaches and Board decide to move the team to the TMBRA league for next racing season to progress rider development, allow younger rider participation and allow parents to race.

September 19
3rd version of website launched by McCraw Design.

November 30
First map of Ranch Park Trail produced with 5.7 miles of fun twisty singletrack!

Senior Scholarships established for the Dripping Springs Mountain Bike Team.

May 15
Dedication trail sign produced for Coach Lance in honor of his legacy to the team and community.

May 21
First Senior Scholarships awarded by the team to Ben Marsan and Elliot Turner.

June 8
Head Coach Lance Thornton, wife Melissa and son Carter move to Pagosa Springs, Colorado. We all can’t wait to visit!!!
